Personal Inquiry Project (PIP)

December 9, 2012 Leave a comment

This is a Personal Inquiry Project I developed, adapted from theĀ  International School of Paris IB Program, Student Personal Project Handbook. I created the project after attending an Oregon Council for English Teachers conference, where I was inspired by workshops on project-based learning.

PIP is meant for any English classroom, and specifically aligns with many Common Core standards in reading, writing, language, and speaking and listening.

Sample Webquest

December 5, 2012 Leave a comment

This is a sample webquest for a social studies class on the Industrial Era and Reform. The webquest asks students to answer the question, “Robber Barons or Captains of Industry?”. The students are to research information on industrialists at the turn of the century and record evidence to support their thesis in a paper. There are links to GoogleDocs for the assignment and graphic organizer.

The students will then work in groups to come to a consensus on the question, and then create a poster or political cartoon they will then present to the class.

The webquest is here: Robber Barons or Captains of Industry? Webquest
